Enterprise Data Program

Establishing the concept and realizing the potential

Situation

As a global company with many disparate and even redundant systems, DDI faced the all too common challenge of a complete stagnation of many of the key data initiatives.

Task

In response, it launched an Enterprise Data Team, bringing system and data owners and experts from around the organization together to identify high value projects and scalable and sustainable processes, ultimately facilitating the instantiation of a data driven culture.

Action

After repeated failure to gain traction and carve out some roles and projects, I assumed the lead on the existing projects, collaborated individually or in small groups to quickly align, engage, and obtain buy-in and requisite approvals, and drove progress.
As each phase, sub-project, or major project completed I iterated on the roles and responsibilities of the team as well as the vision of how the enterprise could and should use data to drive performance and achieve results.

Result

We successfully completed a host of mini-projects, leading to the investment in a 3rd party data platform for great data quality and enrichment through automation, as well as investments in new Enterprise Data focused roles within the organization. Ultimately, these efforts fueled the successful launch of an Enterprise Data Program that can sustainably drive the organization towards its goal of data driven decision making.
